Mindset, You Become What You Think About

Entrepreneurial Mindset

How do you feel when you think about starting or growing a business? Your ideas and thoughts create emotions. These positive or negative emotions set the foundation for your entrepreneurial mindset. In other words, you become what you think about.

  • “What you think about creates emotion.”
  • More importantly,  “Emotion determines action or inaction.

Negative Emotions:

  • Stress, fear, and panic
  • Produce frustration and result in damaging inaction

Positive Emotions:

  • Comfort, courage, and confidence
  • Produce certainty and lead to decisive action

Conclusion: If you want to become an entrepreneur remember

  • You become what you think about
  • You must manage your entrepreneurial mindset to succeed

Negative Mindset results in three unproductive indicators

Result #1: You Get Stuck in Busy Hustle

Busy Hustle means working hard yet producing nothing.
Don’t “work” on a project, instead “complete your project!”

You must change your self-talk. Always think about positive action verbs for your entrepreneurial mindset.

Result #2:  The “Too Much Time ” Trap

If your business is new, you might fall into this trap. Perhaps due to the fact you have more time than you have clients.  Therefore you might allow yourself to expand “work” to fill up the extra time.

Don’t use this negative mindset, “I can fill any two hours of “work” into an eight hour day.”?        Remember “work” does not necessarily equal “productivity.”

  • Be realistic
  • Look at the projects you need to finish
  • Assign a time slot for each
  • Set a timer and stick to that time!

Advice for the perfectionist type:

  • In the beginning, you might have to lower your standards.
  • In the end, B-minus projects get more results than no project at all.
  • You have to determine what level of perfection is acceptable for you.
  • Lastly, don’t get stuck in the minutia.

Result #3: You’re Avoiding Failure and Discomfort

Your first step is to get outside of your comfort zone to grow your business. Our brains are prewired to avoid failure at any cost. Therefore, be prepared to fail repeatedly to produce success.

So what are you going to do? You have to show your brain that discomfort and failure aren’t a death sentence. Just learn how to be comfortable there.

Lastly, you need to schedule “comfort time.” Relax, do something you enjoy. Stay away from your phone, tablet, and laptop.

When your timer goes off, get up and out of your workspace for 15 to 30 minutes.
